Kenneth C. Helander
September 5, 1931 – July 18, 2023
Kenneth passed away suddenly at the Hillcrest Lodge in Provost, Alberta on July 18, 2023, at the age of 91 years.
Ken was a 30-year veteran of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Reg. #17217) and graduated from Depot Division, “Q” Squad in Regina in 1952. He served all of his career in “K” Division in Alberta and retired as the S/Sgt NCO in command of the Fort Saskatchewan detachment.
Following his career with the RCMP, Ken briefly worked in the Solicitor General’s department of the Alberta government. Once fully retired, he and Rita hit the road… they embrace the “RVing” lifestyle. Their favorite summer destination was Kananaskis in the Rocky Mountains; and in winter, it was the sun and warmth of Arizona.
Ken is survived by his children, son, Randy Helander (Barbara); daughter, Janis McNalley (Jack); and grandson, Cody McNalley. Ken is also survived by his sister, Bernice Gregory of Winnipeg, and sister-in-law, Shirley Walters, of Seattle, Washington.
He is predeceased by his wife Rita; brothers, Allan and Roy; and sister, Betty.
Respecting Ken’s wishes, no funeral service is planned; however, the family with gather privately at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in Ken’s name to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
