Obituary of Caroline Doetzel

Surrounded by the love of her family and the joy of the Risen Lord, Caroline peacefully passed into her Savior's arms on Easter Monday, April 1, 2024.

Caroline was born June 23, 1935, to Joseph and Rosina Rehmann. She was the second oldest of 5 siblings. The family lived and farmed in the Rosenheim area where family, faith and hard work were the cornerstones of their lives. She attended Western Ridge, Hokenheim and Terresetta (Castor) schools. University of Alberta followed where she obtained her Education training. Caroline then began her teaching career at the one room Hokenheim School. On July 12, 1955 she married her partner in life, Ben Doetzel. They started their married life in Czar where they were both teaching. In 1958 they moved to Provost where they both taught at Saint Thomas Aquinas School for the rest of their careers. From 1960 to 1967 Caroline took time off from teaching to raise her young family.  In 1967 she returned to the classroom, teaching Grade 4 until her retirement in 1990.

Her passions were her family and faith. After her retirement Caroline completed her Diploma in Liturgical Studies, followed by her Bachelors of Theology (2002) from Newman Theological College. Caroline was part of the church ministries at St. Mary's Catholic Church for over 50 years as a member of the CWL, RCIA, liturgy committee and was a reader and Eucharistic minister.  She was recognized by AHS as a volunteer for  her years of bringing communion to LTC, the hospital, Lodge, the sick and shut in and assisting with services at the Lodge and LTC. Assisting the priest, Caroline also helped families prepare for vigils and funeral services for their loved ones.

Upon retirement she took up bowling, piano lessons, spent more time flower gardening (especially geraniums), cooking and baking, playing cards and games with Ben and her family, travelling and making her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren feel special.

Caroline is survived by her children, Shirlianne (Harold) Neufeld, Marilynn Brown, Jim (Dawn) Doetzel,  Colleen (Laurie) Stang and Randy (Heather) Doetzel; grandchildren, Nick (Sara), Al (Kate), Tanner (Shayla), Kayta (Kia), Ben (Samantha), Finn, Luke (Claire), Jessie, Samantha (Josh) and Sascha; great grandchildren, Jordan, Nate, Connor, Kipton, Jaycee, Brody, Harper and two more expected soon; her brother, Roland (Christine) Rehmann; sister, Josie Rehmann; sisters in law, Loretta Rehmann, Barbara Bosch, Patricia Doetzel, Sr Audrey Doetzel NDS and brother in law, Ed Doetzel.

She was predeceased by Ben, her loving husband of 51 years; her parents, Joseph and Rosina Rehmann; her brothers, Alois and Norbert; sister, Marie Fontenella and her husband Joseph; numerous brother in laws and sister in laws.

A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Provost, Alberta with Father Christopher Selvaraj Rayappan SAC and Father Mahesh Rathinasamy officiating. Interment will follow at the Provost Cemetery.

Caroline's service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend. The livestream will be available through the GFH website under Caroline's obituary at the time of the service.
