Anne filled the space around her with positivity, possibility, support, optimism and laughter. Coffee in her kitchen was an event, enjoying her garden an adventure. A teacher by profession, she was mostly a teacher by example. So very missed... m

I met Anne in an online collaboration group when I first started at ECSD LINC. She made me feel welcome immediately and put me at ease with her quick sense of humor and hearty laugh. She was a beautiful blend of wit and intellect, of grace and acceptance. Countless students have benefitted from her teaching and countless staff have learned from her and with her. Her legacy lives on in so many. She is deeply missed. My deepest condolences to her family, for although we feel her loss deeply at work, I know she was so much more to you.

Anne and I never worked in the same location at ECSD however it was during the early days of the pandemic while we were all online for training webinars and meetings that I witnessed Anne's wit, rapturous laughter and camaraderie. Rest in peace Anne.

My son came home from a ride on horseback on the land across from our farm. He told of an Englishman he met on the land, and he said how interesting the encounter was. The man was surveying what became his and Anne’s future farm.
The next thing, we were at a huge community barbecue at Robin and Anne’s place. As we walked around the yard, it was evident they hadn’t left all of England behind. A boat was carrying the millstone from their homeland !
Anne and I met Barbara Sadler Wells through a music workshop I attended. On introducing myself to Barbara, it turned out later a few of us attended her free group lesson . Anne and Barbara hit it off, immediately and we attended our first voice lessons together , driving through good weather , or a horrible blizzard. I recall such good visits as she drove.
Anne was genuine, her laughter addictive. Her heart was large for others, and she left that mark on those who know her.

A decade later, I still clearly remember meeting Anne for the first time. I was moving to Edmonton to live, and being a friend of her son John’s, it was arranged that she would pick me up from the airport and I would stay with her while I found my feet in a new city.
Being the wonderful soul she was, she opened her home and heart to me. As I was halfway around the world from my actual family, she became like family for me in Edmonton. I will always be grateful for her generosity, conversation, laughs and companionship. It truly left a mark on me and formed a cherished piece of the memories of my time in Edmonton.
Anne, I will miss you. The world has lost a special woman, but you will live on in all our hearts, as your warmth, character, kindness and fun-loving nature made a difference and meant so much to so many of us.

Anne was a beacon of light in every situation. She had a contagious laugh and the best stories. I am honored to have known her in lots of different roles in my life: my landlord, my classmate, my neighbour, and most importantly, my friend. She was always ready for a chat and quick to offer coffee or wine (depending on the time of day and the topic of discussion). She played a huge part in the teacher, the friend, and the mother I am today. I will remember our moments together fondly. May she rest in peace. Always to live on in our hearts.

We had plans to do coffee. It's hard when you expect someone to be always there. I wish she could have had a few more years to enjoy her retirement and her grandkids. I will miss our spontaneous meetings like at the airport or at her house picking apples.

We first met when Anne & Robin, Rosie, John and Harry when they settled on their new Canadian farm near ours in the 1990’s. Anne and her family soon thereafter began making and weaving lasting memories into the fabric of this rural community. Anne dearly loved her family, her farm and her neighbours. Particularly memorable were the annual Boxing Day gatherings when the Chandler family invited the community into their home. Throughout the year, many a cup of coffee or tea were shared with Anne around the kitchen table. One could always count on Anne’s cheerful smile throughout both the joys and rigours of the business of grain farming that she actively contributed to the daily tasks of. Many a mile of country toad we walked together sharing our family, agriculture and education thoughts and the love of books. All of this was greatly missed when she moved to Edmonton.
We can only imagine the joy of reunion with all those before her when Anne entered Heaven’s gate! We thank God for the blessing of being a part of Anne’s life and she a true friend in ours.

Anne was an amazing and caring friend. She brought a special spirit into friendship relations. If you were Anne's friend, you constantly felt the care from her side. She always shared endless, exciting, and adventures life stories accompanied with the sincere and explosive laugh.
Anne was not a wonderful friend; she was a great and thoughtful mother. All her children and her grandchildren were deeply and tenderly beloved by mom and grandma. Anne's phone was full of family pictures which she proudly shared with her friends.
I send my deepest condolences to Anne's family.
I was lucky to be Anne's friend and the memory of her will stay forever with me.
Dear Anne, Rest in Peace.

From the first time I met Anne, there was a wonderful connection as we shared many similar life adventures, especially our time in Nigeria in the 80's. She was always full of joy and laughter with a kind giving heart. As a colleague she was always ready to help and open to new ideas. Her bright light, warm welcoming smile and ripples of laughter will be missed. My deepest condolences to the family. Carolynne Melnyk

Anne was an incredibly wonderful, kind, and loving friend. We cherished our shared passion for Harry Potter books and movies and even dabbled in painting together. Although we didn't see each other often, our conversations always picked up right where we left off, as if no time had passed at all. In August 2023, Anne shared updates about her life and adventures post-farm sale. She had taken everything to Houston in a U-Haul in June 2023, to Harry and Rosie . Anne planned to take a break from September to December 2023 and mentioned her hopes to visit me at my new office in the upcoming spring. Dear Anne, your memory will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I knew Anne through ATESL and the university, as well as through the Avenue-LearnIT2teach project where I was her mentor and she was my mentee — although I am sure that I learned as much (or more) from her as she did from me.
A couple of years ago, I reached out to he to ask her if she would like to do a pan-Canadian webinar with me on instructional design in Avenue and of course she said yes, and she brought all of her enthusiasm and willingness to share everything she learned to our presentation. It was such a joy to work with her.
Linda, Rosie, John, and Harry, I am so sorry for your loss. Anne was a valued colleague, and she will be missed.

My husband Joe and I met Annie at an Advent party at the home of a mutual friend in December 2007. We talked with her most of the night, recognizing in her a kindred spirit of rural background and vibrant musical interests. She rapidly became an "old friend" to us, and was all the more valued because we were new to Edmonton. Annie was always interested in the small and great moments of our lives, interested in our family members whom she had never met, interested in our hopes and vexations. She and Linda looked after our anxious little Jack Russel when we went to Ontario for two weeks at what must have been great inconvenience to themselves though they steadfastly maintained he was no trouble. They took such good care of him that he was relaxed and happy when we came to pick him up, and he loved them for ever after. We laughed so often and so much with Annie, and enjoyed precious times with her and Linda, and a few times with her children, under the grand old apple tree in the back yard, or in her homey kitchen, or on her front deck. We simply cannot believe that she is gone--all that empathy, generosity, adventurousness, and joy gone from Edmonton, but not from our hearts and memories. We extend our deepest and warmest condolences to our friend Linda, and to Rosie, John, Harry and their families. Your loss is so much greater than ours, and ours is a loss we can't bear to contemplate. But we are so very grateful that we were among the lucky ones who had Annie in their lives, even if only for a few short years.

Anne was not only a cherished colleague at ECSD but also a kindred spirit. Our bond formed effortlessly, rooted in our shared experiences in West Africa with Voluntary Services Overseas. With generosity at her core, Anne offered invaluable feedback on my papers during my M.Ed. program. In a harmonious exchange, I had the honor of styling her hair in my classroom—a space where laughter and profound conversations flourished.
Anne’s presence was a beacon of warmth within our school. Her classroom served as a hub for relaxed chats and the exchange of innovative teaching resources, which she shared selflessly. Her laughter was a radiant force, infusing every corner with happiness.
I am deeply grateful for the moments we spent discussing the profound message and the good news of John 3:16. These memories of Anne are treasures I will hold close forever. As we bid farewell, we find solace that she now rests peacefully in the embrace of our heavenly Father.

My heart has broken hearing about Annie’s passing. My family and I met Annie when we moved to Edmonton in 2013 and were fortunate to live across the street from her. We were giggling within minutes and never stopped. When we moved, she and Linda hosted a neighborhood party for us. She even tried to hire a piper to pipe us farewell as we drove off. I have no doubt there will be many pipes a piping to honour this incredible human who’s kindness and humour made such a difference. Rest in peace dear Annie and our condolences to her family and friends.
