Helfrid and I were cousins but more than that we were best friends as children. We played house with broken dishes and had undiluted coffee and sugar lumps with Aunt Helga when our mothers weren't around. Helfrid and I got our first perm together at age 15 and the hairdresser ended up being my husband several years later. We doubled dated with Helfrid and Grant and went to dances together. What wonderful memories!

There so very many stories I could share but a great memory of mine was the best salmon sandwiches Helfrid made on home made bread; they were made different than my Mom's but also very good! It was also very nice to have such a wonderful family living just the road and I had kids to play with. They great imaginations; the things we did, games we played were always so much fun. Jill would read me bedtime stories, even when we were in our teens! Lots of great memories! Luv ya all, Penny XOXO

I was fortunate to have regular chats with Helfrid when she lived in Vialta Lodge. I will always remember the "three stubborn H's" (Helfrid, Helga, Harold) and the many laughs we had in the smoking room. There were times when life was a challenge for these people and they were such an inspiration to us 'kids' as they faced life with amazing strength of character and a great sense of humour. I'm glad that Helfrid and her family (especially you, Jill) have been a part of my life. Three cheers for stubborn Norwegians!

I remember one beautiful summer afternoon when I was staying with Diane (Osback) ... we were probably about 12 years old. We ventured over the hill and ended up at MacGregors. Helfrid had just finished picking raspberries and, as we know, it's a rather labor intensive job. She generously offered us each a bowl of berries with the option of smothering them in sweet cream (which I did). They were the best raspberries ever!

Dear Peggy, There are NO words that can take away your pain with the passing of one so dear. When you love someone as much as you loved your mom, they are never far away, as their spirit lives in us forever. May it comfort you to know you are in the thoughts and prayers of many....I am one. Sending love and ((HUGS)). Sincerely; Arlene

During my 1st of many sleep-overs at Sheila's I was amazed at the duties she did: milking cows (or the cow?), peeling potatoes, slicing pickles while I was her guest and did nothing (and had never done any of that). As each one was taking a seat at the table, I could not resist sampling Helfrid's dill pickles. I had never heard grace! The nickname, Pickles, will remain.

It is comforting to know that Aunt Helfrid has reached her final destination, her new home that she looked forward to seeing. We know that you will all miss Aunt. Helfrid so very much, her love, her kindness, and just being your Mother. Because Aunt. Helfrid has finally went to the new home, the home she looked forward to, may this be of some comfort as you walk the difficult road that lies ahead without her. God bless you all for being so good to your Mom.

I remember your Mom as a highly intelligent, incredibly strong, hard working woman with a lively sense of humor, something that she managed to share with all her children. Although it's been way too many years since I've seen Helfrid, I'm honored to have known her and cherish the friendships with you, her family. My heart goes out to you at this difficult time. Love Jan
