Dear Family, I am so sorry to learn of your loss. We own at the Red Frog Beach Resort and have campaigned to make the beach safer. My husband , lee Colligan, suffered a broken neck when he was swimming at the beach. We had a harrowing nine hour ordeal to David and ultimately was determined to be paralyzed and later died. I returned to panama and had appointments with the Ministry of Tourism to help educate the perils of red frog beach and the importance of the panama tourist insurance card. ( not to be insensitive , but were you informed iof the death benefit from the government ?). Not sure if the program is still being offered Anyway, we gifted a backboard and neck brace to Red Frog. I also advocated for a lifeguard which was implemented immediately. We arrived this past Sunday, and as of today, the lifeguard was on duty. The Red Frog Resort is in a difficult position because whilst you traverse private property, the actual beach is public. The resort however funds the lifeguard and it's the Red Frog employees who are typically involved in the rescues. Anyway, not to burden you with so much information, but I can only check every year to make sure that the lifeguard is on duty. We live in NJ. Dear Michelle, Murray and Family, I never knew Colby, but I do remember seeing "little Murray" in church in Denzil over the years - with a big grin on his face. A piece of your hearts will always be missing, and I cannot imagine how awful this has been for you and your family. When we lost my brother Dave suddenly, someone said to my Mom - if the doctor had handed you your baby and told you then that you could only have him for 25 years, would you have given him back? No... You were blessed to have had such a special son and brother for the time that you did, and he has touched and enriched your lives and the lives of many others. The RFO group - which Colby was a part of - completed a very important risk assessment recently (Q4; 2014) at the Foster Creek plant. In doing so, a gas monitoring system had to be setup to ensure worker safety in main pipe racks near operating tanks. A total of 32 gas monitors (transmitters) had to be setup in 32 different locations, which that was the easy part. The worst part was we had to find the transmitters first, since they were already setup in the wrong locations… Colby and I spent two days straight trying to find these "needles in a needle stack." We climbed up and down ladders, on top of operating equipment, and in and out of pipe racks. Normally, this wouldn't be so arduous but we were wearing full respiratory gear (mask and bottle). We went through four bottles of air each that first day; our masks were full of water from sweat and condensation. Once we found the transmitters, we had to setup them up on top of tanks. Unfortunately, some of the tanks only had engineered-ladder access to the top of the tanks. For the average sized guy, going up these special ladders with a bottle of air on your back is hard enough; for bigger guys it is almost impossible. So, there we were, looking at these transmitters wondering how we would get them up on top of the tank. After a few seconds, Colby had the genius idea of tucking them in his coveralls [see: photo]. I then proceeded to watch Colby climb up the later with the transmitter tucked in his overalls. I think I used more bottles of air than Colby for those two days because I was laughing so hard watching Colby go up these types of ladders.
We were so burnt out at the end of the second day, we didn't have the energy left to setup our last transmitter. I remember telling Colby, "here's a Dr. Pepper; let's pretend it's a beer and it will taste so much better". I'm sure glad Colby was "voluntold" to help me that day because I would still be out there trying to setup everything up, and because I know he loved doing every minute of it….

What I remember most about Colby is his big smile. He was a joy to have in my classroom - easy-going and always full of fun. From the short time that I knew him as a student, I would venture to say that he lived his short life with enthusiasm and fullness to an extent that many of us who have lived longer in years may never experience.
