Obituary of Ursula Zita Fischer

Please share a memory of Ursula to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ursula Fischer (nee Graf) was born at Macklin, Saskatchewan on August 31, 1936. She was the tenth daughter of thirteen children born to Peter and Mary Graf (nee Rolheiser). After school, Ursula taught at Barryville School and lived with her Uncle Stanley and Aunt Annie. On June 10, 1958 Ursula married Matt Fischer. They lived in Edmonton, Alberta where she worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia before moving to the farm near Cactus Lake. Ursula and Matt had six children, three girls and three boys which eventually would lead to the addition of seventeen grandchildren. On April 2, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer, Ursula passed away at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 78 years. All who knew Mom loved her dearly. Her sense of humour was second to none, and you knew that if Mom was around, you were in for a good time and lots of laughs. Mom was also known as a terrific cook who could whip up a great meal in the blink of an eye. Her potato soup and noodle soup were always family favourites. Mom was even better known for her sharp card playing skills and for the "secret strategies" she used. Mom set a wonderful example for us all through her selflessness, always putting others' needs ahead of her own and making everyone feel important and special. However, one of Mom's most memorable qualities was her strong faith, a shining example for her trust in God, and it was this trust that led her through her journey with cancer with courage, determination and grace. Regardless of how she was feeling she put on a brave face and did her best to comfort and reassure others. Mom had cancer, but cancer never had her! Mom will be so deeply missed by everyone who knew her. In Mom and Dad's almost 57 years together, they were a great team and the love and devotion Dad showed Mom, especially during her illness, was a true example for us all. Mom, may you now rest in peace. Left to cherish Ursula's legacy and many memories are her husband, Matt; children, Anita (Don) Janzen and their children, Brandon, Mathew and Katelyn; Elaine (Gary) Marceniuk and their children, Ryan and Brittany; Gary (Tammie) Fischer and their children, Tyler, Justin and Logan; Terry (Donna) Fischer and their children, Nathan, Chelsey and Braden; Karen (Rene) Ollenberger and their children, Spencer, Dylan, Alyssa and Cassidy; Kevin (Myrna) Fischer and their children, Kirsten and Rhett; brothers and sisters, Rosemarie Ackerman, George Graf, Angela Sieben, Dorothy Schulmeister and Gerald Graf; sister in law, Tillie Graf; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
