To Venus' Family, My husband and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Venus' death. We were most appreciative that we had been advised by phone. We did know her husband Walter, but we never met her children. In Provost Venus and I went through the trials and tribulations of growing up together; we were very much at home at either the Johnstone's or Holtsbaum's; we biked together - everywhere; we loved Dilberry Lake; and Venus always had those two brothers - Jack and Scottie - in the background. When we were both in Edmonton we continued to see each other. When I returned to Provost for a brief period and Ven was working in 'the bank' our friendship remained the same. We were even on speaking terms after we returned from a holiday at Waskesiu Lake in Saskatchewan. Over 56 years ago she was my bridesmaid. In later years, because of distance and circumstances, we weren't able to see each other often but we did keep in touch through phone calls and cirrespondence. I will always remember her coming out to the Provost Cemetery in the bitter cold to attend my Mother's (Chris Holtsbaum's) internment eight years ago, and afterwards sharing in the fellowship at a friend's home. She was a true lifelong friend, and will be missed. The memories her death evoke are numerous, happy, sad, and span more years than I care to acknowledge. Rest in Peace, Venus...
