Obituary of John Vogel

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John was born to John Sr. and Mary Simon on the family homestead, eight miles north of Compeer, Alberta, on December 21, 1916. John was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a man with a strong Catholic faith. John and his wife Pauline, faithfully attended mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Provost. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Growing up on the homestead John was an active farmer. Every year he would look forward to the spring planting and fall harvest. He took great care of his cattle, always giving them a little extra feed on those cold winter days. John always enjoyed caring for and working with his horses. John married Pauline Knorr and they raised eight children. They moved to Provost and he moved onto being a gardener, caretaker and helping Pauline with babysitting. John and his older brother Albert made a substantial amount of boxes of blocks for both the community and their families. John was well known for his love of music, playing records at home, and entertaining with his accordion and guitar skills. He played many other instruments over the years and was part of a band well into his nineties. Upon retirement John and Pauline were active card players at the Provost Drop-in Center. John will always be remembered for the great enjoyment he had at the many family functions over the years. When asked for his help, John always was sure to show up at least an hour early. He never failed to let his great sense of humor shine and enjoyed clowning around with his grandchildren.
