I remember being a little girl, going to Altario for the summers to say at my grandma Marion gramlich's and grandpa gramlicks.
I used to follow marion,( grandma gramlich's) to the bar at the hotel for her shift of work, and gwen would always pass me a tiny bag of katchup chips to me before she left. Gwen would also come into the house for quick visits over coffee at the kitchen table and she was always so nice to me, as back then, adults didnt really talk or interact with kids, they were more seen than heard from at that time, and i was always so surprised she noticed me and talked with me.
Then years later, In my early 20's, I took a group of friends from a musical I was doing, and we spent a good chunck of time staying at the hotel, playing music, trying to earn donations to fix the roof. My friend who came with us was a phycic and I remember her and Gwen sitting at one of the tables in the altario bar and I listened as my friend did a reading of Marcy. Marcy was still alive then, and she would pop in the bar to make sure everything was going smoothly and teach us how to work the till.
I didnt know who Gwen was when I took everyone there, and then I recognised, she was the nice lady who used to do coffee visits with my grandma and she was the one who used to give me chips.
I got to know Gwen well on that Altario visit as an adult, and I cant tell you how kind and funny she was.
I mean, here are a group of twenty something year olds that are strangers, and Gwen didnt bat and eye or miss a step, she welcomed us in like old long time family members! She was so patient and kind and giving. She has such a sence of humor and she would have our group laughing at all times! She got our sence of dark humor. She was very fast and quick witted on her feet keeping up with all of us finding humor in literally everything. She spent time teaching me how to cook with what they had in the kitchen at that time of the Altario hotel.
Gwen was there at the hotel while we were entertaining. just sitting back smiling and laughing and visiting with everytone, enjoying the entertainment. Gwen was the closest comparible reguarding her kindness and how she treated people, to my Grandpa Gramlich(John Gramlich),and her husband donald Just literally the kindest, most loving people ive ever met! Gwen was so patient and kind and loving and a kindred spirit!
She was not religious, but she was super spiritual like new age spiritual, and we couldnt believe how old she was,(old to us) that she lived in the middle of no where, yet had the same beliefs we all did in 2003!
Much love to her whole family at her loss.
I was so lucky to be able to know her and what a privilidge... They dont make em' like that anymore.
Gwen believed that we never die, we live on, and its a new begining! This is just a new begining for her, and she gets to be with marcy and all her other loved ones that have gone before her.
She will always be with us the second we think of her and we can talk to her any time, and she will always be here watching, just in a different form
