To Janice and all the family of Jim Kohlman my deepest condolences. I have been privileged to have taken care of Jim for these past 6 years. Even though his voice was quiet his eyes spoke volumes. You would always see the sparkle there in his eyes when Janice or his family were there. You could take the rancher out of the ranch when they retired but at 5-530 am he was always awake looking out the window watching the weather. When the miniature ponies would escape( and they always did) and make their way close to the health center Jim would perk right up and just follow them with his eyes. I was very lucky that I was similar to Janice in height and shape as he would always watch me come in his eyes would wrinkle and then you could tell he would be like not quite. The absolute love he had in his eyes for Janice was palpable. I remember coming in to give him his meds and he would be so relaxed laying in bed holding her hand or foot. The shakiness would be gone the anxiety would be gone. Janice was there everyday always there for “Hun bun”. The funniest thing that I remember was when he first came in and he would be walking down the hall and then because he was so quiet you didn’t know anything then suddenly Jim would pull the fire alarm and the lights and loud noise would suddenly startle him and he would be shuffling quickly the other direction. Sometimes he would ring it 3-5 times a week. I thought it was the colour not knowing he was colour blind. Then we thought it was maybe it looked like something with trucks. The first day we put up the clear boxes on the fire alarm boxes he walked down the hall per usual he went to the closest alarm pull and he put his hand up and looked up at us at the desk. It was like surprise! He was so much a part of our St.Joseph’s family and he will always be remembered. I will always remember him looking towards the sunrise hands on both hips with Ranger his horse. God bless you all
