I did not know Katie. I was on site during the fundraiser at Bowcliffe. It was well attended and I was touched at the spirit and support from Katie’s colleagues. When I learned the fundraiser was for Katie’s little girl Emily I was compelled to donate. Katie’s friends and her mother thanked me in a moment that touched my heart.
My daughter is an engineer. Her name is Emily.
Somehow it fits.

Everytime I think of Katie, another word also pops into my head. Kind. Katie was so undeniably kind to everyone. She made you feel cared for, respected, and calm. She was fun and silly and genuine and thoughtful. So many beautiful words to describe her beautiful soul. I have been fortunate to get to know Katie throughout the years through hanging out before and after voice lessons, playing softball, and as Rachelle’s older sister. The love that Katie and Rachelle have for each other has always been so apparent. Katie’s kindness made a positive impact on everyone around her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered ❤️

Katie’s sudden death reminded me right away of other untimely deaths in her family. Still a teenager, Katie’s Uncle Doug died in a car accident. We were all so shocked. Then Katie’s Grandpa Brian Hager died in a workplace accident; now Katie is joining them in Heaven, but so much
grief for wonderful people in the same loving and caring family. So sad for everyone who loved her. May God richly presence Himself with each of you. What a meaningful service for Katie. Psalm 23

Some more memories from June 2017.
Our first time on the Autobahn, secretly freaking out because Aline's dad was driving so fast!
Katie, I will never forget how kind and generous you were on this trip. You did your best to make sure our Gramma was comfortable and had the best time.
I am so grateful that you were on this adventure with us ❤️ and that you took the reigns when it came to reading the maps because I had no clue what was going on!

Katie, little Katie. I have the privilege of being one of her many cousins. My sister Kailla and I got to know Katie the most when she was a little babe and growing up as her family grew larger. Got to see she and Ian's beautiful wedding and later to message her that I was sending her APEGA P.Eng. certificate, what an accomplishment. (I am lucky enough to work at APEGA and was so excited to get it to her.) She was always kind, patient and had a drive to achieve her goals. She is an inspiration to her Emily and many, many others. She will always be remembered and memories of her held close. Sincerest condolences to the Brost, Welter, Hager and MacLellan families. Gone too soon and greatly missed. Love Krystal and the boys.

Growing up, I had the pleasure of spending time in the Brost household every Tuesday for voice lessons. Later on, Katie and I worked together during the summer. I am so grateful to have had an entire summer getting to spend every day with her. We told each other everything and shared so many laughs. I’ve never met someone so wholesome, kind and naturally full of grace. She never judged those around her, loved her family fiercely and made everyone around her feel good. She is someone whose memory I’ll hold so close to my heart.

Katie, Ian, Emma and Jenni were in Germany in 2017. We had such a good time and I had the chance to get to know Katie better and she is such a caring, empathic, grateful and soft hearted person and I really enjoyed the time with her and showing her around Germany.
I will never forget the memories.

Angels Never Die
Angels never die they all live on,
In each and everyone of us they make us strong.
Katie will always be,
the angel to guide when we can’t see.
We’ll remember her sweet smile in the morning sun,
when the stars shine bright in the skies, we’ll think of her laughter, love, tenderness and strength in her eyes,
that she shared with everyone.
O angels never die they all live on,
in each and everyone of us they make us strong.
Katie will always be,
the angel to guide when we can’t see.
O Katie’s memories will live on forever,
in us, through us and around us too,
in our hearts we’ll always be together,
for her husband, child, other family members. friends and yes for me and you.
For angels never die they live a lifetime,
angels never die they’re always
ALIVE.

My memories of Katie are meeting her when Ian and her were dating. We would go out for lunches in Kindersley, work at the Christmas hamper together and would meet at Pam and Gary's for any party Pam was having. The last time I saw her was at their wedding and she was beautiful. I would hear from Pam what they were up to either renovations to their house, when she was expecting and got pictures when their daughter was born. Even though we were not close we would pick up where we left off whenever it would be. She knew what I was up to and I her thanks to Pam.
My heart breaks for her daughter she lost her mommy so young. You will have a huge void in your lives and time will keep going and you will look back and wonder how you survived through the last 2 weeks. Tears of sadness will one day be tears of happiness when you think of or talk about the memories and stories of her. You will keep her alive in your hearts and homes for Emmie and she will grow up knowing her mom.
As hard as this is now time goes on. The world doesn't stop because we are hurting. We will wake up everyday and put one foot infront of the other and miss her, but we dont know why or understand why God took her home, we will see her again one day. You will see her everyday in Emmie and I am sure she will make herself known in your lives when you look for her.

You Don’t Just Lose Someone Once…
You lose them over and over,
sometimes many times a day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realization hits home,
they are gone.
Again.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart,
they are gone.
Again.
Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat,
when it washes over.
Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time they realize, they are gone,
Again.
You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every day,
for a lifetime.

This is the most heart-wrenching, chest-crushing, breath-stealing tragedy on earth.
Emmy, there will be days you want to just cry, and friends who will not understand some of the things you do or say.
I wanted to tell you that you will feel your mommy’s presence at times, sometimes so strongly that it is as if she is dancing just at the edge of whatever activity is going on. And other times you might not feel her presence at all.
I wanted to tell you that your life will not go back, that you will never be the same, because a piece of you left with your mommy.
And that even though the pain does not go away, somehow your soul will eventually make enough room so you can hold it all– the grief, the pain, the joy and the love.
Love Grandma Pam

Katie is our beloved Daughter-In-Law. We are so proud of her. What stands out most to me is Katie’s empathy and kindness for all. This has been by far the hardest time of our lives, but it’s been precious too as we’ve pulled together as a family. Our community has lavished love on us and buried us in an avalanche of food. We’ve cried, laughed and tried to figure out how we’re going to go forward with a huge hole in our lives. We all miss our Katie Girl so much. We’ve learned anew that nothing in life is certain and there are no guarantees. Nothing, except the faithfulness of God—even in the midst of the unthinkable. Many of you have reached out to us and I can’t thank you enough for this outpouring of prayer and love. Each of you have eased our burden by sharing it and we cannot thank you enough. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
Love Gary and Pam Welter
Not in Vain
If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain:
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
